Abstract
"The following article provides an overview of drug use, abuse, and the impact on dental hygiene treatment. As health professionals, dental hygienists are responsible for a thorough medical history assessment, which includes pharmacological data. Information, contraindications, and manifestations of drugs that patients are currently using are currently using are necessary to provide comprehensive and safe treatment. Signs and symptoms of substance use can and should be identified by a dental care provider." --from p. 22
