Abstract
(from Introduction, page 2)
To make jobs more meaningful, the workforce must be given more responsibility for their own work, and should also be more involved with the actual planning process and control of results than was previously ascribed to them. These functions have been performed somewhere else by other individuals or groups, or by management, and to transfer these functions means a reorganization of not only a particular job, but the several other jobs involved as well. Perhaps there is a shift of management functions to lower levels to accomplish the re-design of jobs.
